University of Toronto Says Weight Loss is Psychological, Not Physical







According to Dr. Steve Hirsch, going hungry is not an important rule when it comes to weight loss. He stated that hunger always wins.

Dr. Steve is a family doctor and the author of Health First: Wining at Weight Loss and Wellness noted that his program neither advocates diets nor deprivation. He urge people not give up all that much and instead insists more focus to be given on three meals per day and strategic snacking (four times a day). Alcohol in moderation is also allowed.

His program recommends of being "mindful" and fully focused on diet - what we consume, when to eat and why. He states that the healthier you choices become, the lower the risk of suffering from heart disease, diabetes and certain types of cancer.

In reference to his book, there are 10 different food groups split out on a daily or weekly budget for each. For example, he recommends four portions of fruit each day. He notes that there is misconception in eating an unlimited amount of fruit adding that several of his patients acquire pre-diabetes for no perceptible reasons other than consuming fruit in excess.

Hirsch, who is a lecturer in the department of family and community medicine at the University Of Toronto, has been practicing family medicine for the last three decades. He has participated in 25 marathons, five of them being in the Boston marathon. He has maintained his weight ever since he was 18 years old.

Other than focusing on diet and moderate exercise, Dr. Steve's program recommends a reduction in the consumption of salt, sugar, and fat. The most outstanding feature about his weight loss plan is that it contains simple and practical guidelines for anyone who wants to shed extra pounds and stay within the normal range over a lengthy period. This is in comparison to fad diets or hyped training regime that people try and give up along the way.

Whereas most people try losing weight to enhance their physical appearances, Dr. Hirsch does it on medical grounds -- for disease prevention and empowerment. Simply, his program is not a diet in reality but serve as a reminder of conscious eating.

Dr. Steve tells people to avoid processed foods and high-sugar products such as soft drinks and juices. He recommends vegetables in plenty and also claims that other than being nutritious, they are also valuable. He adds that fruits are crucial for nutrition adding that they help brain and heart functions.
